Description
A 6ml bottle of high-quality liquid soldering flux is a chemical agent that cleans and prepares metal surfaces, enabling solder to flow and create a strong, reliable joint by removing oxides and impurities. Typically, these fluxes are acidic, must be handled with care, and are ideal for specific metals like steel, copper, and brass, but generally not for aluminum or electronic circuit boards unless specific cleaning procedures are followed post-soldering.
Key characteristics and uses
Active ingredient:
The flux chemically reacts with metal surfaces, removing oxides and contaminants to ensure good solder adhesion.
For specific metals:
Liquid flux is particularly effective on tough-to-solder materials such as stainless steel, and for joining wires on components like oxygen sensors. It is also suitable for copper, iron, nickel, and brass.
For certain applications:
It’s excellent for general torch soldering of copper pipes and grounding rods, as well as for Li-ion battery soldering.
Not for delicate surfaces:
This type of flux is typically acidic and can damage delicate surfaces, so it is not recommended for use on PCBs or motherboards.
Important Cautions
Handling:
Because it is acidic, do not use it on electronic circuit boards (PCBs) as it can cause corrosion.
Post-soldering cleanup:
If used on a sensitive application where it’s unavoidable, thorough cleaning with a suitable solvent like isopropyl alcohol (IPA) or a motherboard cleaner is essential to prevent damage and corrosion.
Pre-application:
Degrease the surfaces well before applying the liquid flux for the best results.
